How to find your face shape

Pull your hair back so your whole face is visible and look straight into a mirror. Compare the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw, along with how long your face is — the widest point and overall proportion tell you your shape.

  1. Forehead: note whether it's the widest part of your face.
  2. Cheekbones & jaw: see which is wider, and how sharp or soft the jaw is.
  3. Length: a longer face reads as oblong; balanced width and length reads as round or oval.

Hijab styling by face shape

A quick guide to draping that flatters each face shape — the finder above pairs this with the right hijab type for how you like to wear it.

Face shapeStyling tip
RoundAdd a little height and soft angles — a slightly draped side or gentle twist lengthens the face. Avoid wrapping too tight and round.
OvalBalanced proportions mean almost any style works — feel free to experiment with volume and draping.
LongAdd width at the sides and keep it soft and loose to balance length. Avoid extra height on top of the head.
SquareSoften a strong jaw with rounded, draped folds that frame the face rather than sharp, tight lines.
HeartBalance a wider forehead and narrower chin with a little volume and a loose side drape near the jaw.

Frequently asked questions

Which hijab is easiest for everyday wear?

An instant hijab with an attached cap is quickest — just slip it on with no pins. Chiffon suits a more draped, styled look.

How do I know my face shape?

Pull your hair back, look in a mirror, and compare the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw with the length of your face. The widest point and overall proportion point to your shape.

What fabric is best for hot weather?

Lightweight chiffon is breathable and airy, making it a comfortable choice in warm weather while still draping elegantly.

Do your hijabs need pins?

Instant hijabs with an attached cap need no pins. For chiffon styles, a couple of pins or hijab magnets help hold your drape in place.
